Waitress wisdom

  • Ask questions and profit from your waitstaff’s expertise.
  • Avoid gorging on bread

  • You may consume hundreds of calories before the main course.
  • Have a snack before you go, or order a healthy appetizer.
  • A whole grain roll saves about 600 calories over garlic bread.

    Sleuthing out sauces

  • Red sauces can be mostly cream with a touch of tomato for color.
  • Ask for the sauce on the side to save calories and fat.
  • Feasting when the boss pays

  • Employees order pricer dishes that typically contain more calories.
  • Preview the menu before you go and have a healthy option in mind.
  • Save about 400 calories by ordering grilled fish instead of butter steak.
  • Are all veggies virtuous?

  • Find out exactly how the side are prepared to avoid extra calories.
  • Griddles are usually greased with oil.
  • Request substitutions for greasy or buttery sides.
  • Boosting calories with alcohol
