Avoiding Calorie Overload at the Salad Bar
Salad is good for health but some salads have overload caloires that you should avoid. Registered dietitian Elizabeth Somer shares tips on avoiding calorie overload at the salad bar.

Surviving the salad bar
- Salad dressing is the number #1 source of fat in women’s diet.
- Left lettuce is more nutritional than iceberg lettuce.
- Pile on: carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers & peppers.
- Pile on: protein like beans and lean meats.
- Skip anything with oil, mayo or cheese.
- Limit the sprinkles including croutons or seeds.
- Include a little fat to help absorb the nutritions.
- Go easy on the dressing, but avoid fat-free.
- Compliment with soup or whole-grain bread.
